I babysat for a friend of mine when I moved to Japan. He's a surgeon, so he works long hours and doesn't have a lot of time to take care of his son. I learned how to cook for him on my own.

There's an uncomfortable silence between them, although Sakamoto breaks it in a moment. After all, he can never really stop talking.]

but she takes a moment to consider his question while stirring the noodles. she hardly saw shingen on a regular basis and usually he'd only come back when he needed something from her. calling him a friend is actually kind of a stretch, really. ]

Physically, one. Emotionally... I'd say one as well. To be honest, we hardly saw each other and we didn't talk very often.

Sakamoto looks worried, blinking once or twice as he processes this. So a person she essentially worked for wasn't close to her at all? He's tempted to ask if this labor was paid for, but he decides against it.]

He must've been really good looking, for you to have stayed with him that long...

[Did she have nowhere else to go?]

Something was taken from me a very long time ago. I didn't know how long my search in Japan would take, so he had let me stay in his apartment on the condition that I let him perform an autopsy on me and that I take care of his son in his stead.

[ later, she would discover that shingen was the one who took her head all those years ago. ]

I don't know if he's good looking or not. He wore a gas mask each time I saw him.

[Sakamoto slams his fist on the table. Unfortunately, it's a knee-jerk reaction (and his knee actually does jerk upwards in the process).]

[ fiend, hm? she doesn't comment, unsure of what to say to that. it isn't to say that she doesn't care about her body, but at the time, it wasn't as if she had many options to choose from.

instead, she comes over with a bowl and a pair of chopsticks. there's a bottle of red pepper flakes that she places next to it, just in case it's not spicy enough for him. ]

[Sakamoto sprinkles pepper flakes over his meal. It's weird to eat without her joining him, and the mood's gotten awfully dark. She'll learn that he likes his meals spicy, like he does his sex. ♥]

I can't wait to eat this~! It smells so good!

[ she reaches out quickly, gripping his wrist holding the bottle. her grasp isn't particularly tight, but it's firm to get his attention. ]

[ her device lies between them untouched, but the same automated voice comes from it. her fingers tighten around his wrist. ]

I wasn't careless, I am not careless. [ her hand trembles, a flicker-flash of pain. ] He had something that belonged to me. I had no choice.

[She touches him with such urgency.

His lashes immediately flutter. In a matter of a few seconds, he can feel the anguish in her grasp.]

That's despicable.

[The chopsticks fall, clinking against the edge of the bowl and spilling a bit of the broth. Sakamoto reaches for her hand, intwining his fingers in her own.]

[ she made him angry.

she had never held the autopsy against shinra, had never really taken it up with shingen afterwards. but she still remembers the feeling of being slowly cut open, examined, and sewn back up again. she was exposed on the cold table in the hull of the ship, the single lamp above her only illuminating their faces--

she slowly relaxes her fingers, not realizing she'd been gripping his so tightly until she brings herself back. ]

I'm sorry. [ she breathes, in and out. ] I just wanted you to understand.

[It did make him angry.

To think, to exploit a woman like that- Even if Celty could live through it, to take her apart as if she were just some thing... It makes his blood boil. Still, he doesn't let go.]

[He plays with her fingers because he can't help himself.]

[ she sets her other hand on top of his, gently brushes her thumb over his knuckles, his calluses. ]

You've held many things with them and you've broken just as many. But you're careful and gentle when you need to be.

Why isn't she lashing out? He's so used to being called a pervert, because he is one. He says inappropriate things and gets what he deserves for it, but...

[ she clasps her hands around his, squeezing lightly. she has no smile to reassure him with, but she hopes her sincerity still comes across. ]

He can feel a shiver when he hears his first name in his voice. The only other one that comes to mind is Gintoki's, hardly anyone ever addresses him so familiarly. That combined with the warmth and sureness of her hands is too much.]

[Sakamoto swallows hard. This isn't his first rodeo by any means, but it certainly feels like it.]

[ that's why i like you. it's said so simply, but it brings back the swooping feeling she gets whenever she's around him, the feeling of something in her chest seizing up and loosening at the same time. it steals her breath away and leaves her feeling lightheaded, an ache settling deep into her skin, into the smoke she holds inside of her.

in response to his question, she stands from her chair, still holding his hand as she comes around to linger at his side. ]

[He can feel his heart in his throat. It's beating so fast, it's as though every bodily function is going haywire. He ears are ringing and his palms are sweaty, but he doesn't care. As soon as she's beside him, he can't think straight.]

I'm sorry. For what I'm about to do.

[His hands immediately tug her abdomen close to his as he pulls her into his lap, with the ferocity of some kind of monster. As he looks her up and down, he feels like a monster indeed. His gaze is intense, passionate, and focused. Thank god she doesn't have a face, it stops him from doing something even more stupid- Kissing her.

Instead he simply buries his head in her shoulder, withouth saying a word.]

[ but she wishes she had a mouth. she could speak without needing to text, can laugh when he says one of his terrible jokes, and most importantly: she can kiss him. and she wishes she could in this moment, a brief and aching urge that wells up inside of her, simmering beneath her skin.

she falls into his lap, hands gripping his shoulders to keep her balance as she ends up straddling him. his stare is brief, but she can't remember ever feeling so desired in her existence; to feel his gaze on her, to feel his warm hands on her waist. she reaches up to gently sift her fingers through his hair, curling around the strands at the nape of his neck. she wishes they could stay like this for a long time.

[Oh wow.

Sakamoto closes his eyes and shifts his head to allow her more space. When her hands brush over the back of his neck, he is lost to the world entirely, as his body no longer feels like his own. The curly-haired idiot doesn't realize that a something more than a sigh escapes his lips.

It's been so long since he's been touched like this. Hell, he's never been touched like this. Her emotions are sincere, she's attracted to him and not his money, and this isn't just some fling on some foreign planet.]

Would I mind...

[His sounds as if he's lightyears away.]
